Will Jeep Produce a Subcompact Vehicle?

Jeep is well known for their ability to inject everything that encompasses off-road driving and placing it in a SUV for everyday purposes. What they aren't know for is subcompact vehicles. It seems that every manufacturer scales models down a bit for better economy or urban maneuverability. When everyone at Akins Dodge Chrysler Jeep heard Jeep may be jumping in the compact arena we wondered if the American automaker was really considering it.

An article that Edmunds released suggest Jeep will produce a subcompact CUV for the 2014 model year and it could be about same size as the Ford Fiesta. According to the article, the compact vehicles has yet to be named, but manufacturing would take place in Italy and marketed globally.

Thinking of the big picture, the CUV's main competition would be the Ford Fiesta-based EcoSport, which has become very popular in the Indian marketplace. It would also benefit Jeep in terms of new CAFE standards by being more fuel efficient.

Jeep brand CEO Mike Manley explains his hopes for the project, stating, "The weight of that market today is outside North America, predominately Europe. It is growing in China. I think when we launch our SUV here, you are going to see quite significant growth in that segment in the U.S."1
