About Lawrenceville Georgia

Lawrenceville holds the seat of Gwinnett County, Georgia, and had approximately 28,500 residents according to the 2010 census. It consists of six zip codes (30042-30046, 30049), three telephone area codes (678, 770, and 404), and 13.1 square miles of land and water with only 0.1 square miles of the later. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Lawrenceville on December 15, 1821, which makes it the second oldest city in the metropolitan Atlanta area. It was named in honor of Captain James Lawrence who was a naval commander during the War of 1812. He died from battle wounds just a few days after his famous order, stating, " Tell the men to fire faster and not to give up the ship; fight her till she sinks!" During the last 40 years of the 20th Century, the population of Lawrenceville grew significantly. In 1960, there were 3,804 residents and by 2000, there were 22,397. As part of the Gwinnett County Public School system, Lawrenceville is home to more than 20 elementary, middle, and high schools, which include Walnut Grove Elementary School, Twin Rivers Middle School, and Phoenix High School. Notable people from Lawrenceville include professional soccer player Walker Zimmerman, former NFL running back Darius Walker, teen actress Rachel G. Fox, and country music singer Rachel Farley.
